‘The 1619 Project’ Six-Episode Docuseries Comes Out January 26
Almost four years after the New York Times Magazine published “The 1619 Project,” a docuseries based on the book “The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story” will premiere on Hulu in January 2023.
Onyx Collective–owned by the Walt Disney Company–first announced the docuseries in April 2021. Over a year and a half later, on December 15, 2022, it announced “The 1619 Project” is set to premiere on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
Disney’s content brand Onyx Collective is specific to Hulu and is based around creators of color creating relatable stories–Disney also owns a large portion of the streaming platform Hulu.
“‘We worked hard to get everything right with our first offering. . . . launching on a great premium platform like Hulu, and bringing together the creative resources of our friends at Lionsgate and The New York Times to support Nikole Hannah-Jones’ narrative and Roger Ross Williams’ vision is the perfect start to our partnership,’” Oprah Winfrey said when the docuseries was initially announced.
The titles of the six episodes of “The 1619 Project” docuseries, which is the same number of episodes in the podcast, are “Democracy,” “Race,” “Music,” “Capitalism,” “Fear,” and “Justice.”
